Actress Linda Dano is accustomed to the spotlight. Best known for her role as Felicia Gallant on TV's Another World, Linda now shares the spotlight with depression in her role with Support Partners.
Following the deaths of her husband and mother, Linda was diagnosed with depression. Now, the Emmy-winning actress works on recovery with the help of her doctor and her Support Partner. She wants others to know about the support network she finds so helpful in her recovery from depression.
"As someone who is usually upbeat and enthusiastic about life, recent traumatic events thrust me into a battle with depression that left me sad and very much alone. I wasn't sure where to turn. I felt myself turning into someone I didn't recognize," says Linda. "I lost the joy in things I had been doing all my life, like working, taking care of my home, getting dressed in the morning, spending time with friends and family. I was tired all the time, I had trouble sleeping and even had mysterious pains in my back."
Linda learned about depression, talked with her doctor, and surrounded herself with support.
Today, Linda works to highlight the critical role a Support Partner can play in helping a depressed person get the treatment he or she needs.
"People should know that there is a way you can help someone with depression," says Linda, "and people with depression need to know that your friends and family want to support you, so you can get back to feeling like yourself."
