Support Partners – Canine Companions: Expanding Your Support Group to Include Your Dog
Support can come from unexpected places. You can find support by turning to your family, friends and doctor. But your dog can also have a positive effect on overall health and emotional well-being. A dog can offer a great source of love, devotion and affection. They can also help you deal with depression on a day-to-day basis.
Ways Dogs May Help:
- Make sure that you are getting some exercise
- Help take away feelings of loneliness
- Help you be more social
- Provide a source for enjoyable activities such as grooming and playing
Canine Companions offers a downloadable book that will show you how to make your dog part of your support group.
Canine Companions is one part of the Support Partners program. Be sure to also look at the other Support Partners guidebooks. The guidebooks can:
- Help you recognize the signs and symptoms of depression
- Offer tips to manage depression
- Provide advice on how to ask for, or offer, support
