Depression Through the Ages & Stages of a Woman's Life

Some women may know someone with depression or may have had the illness themselves. In fact, about two out of 10 women will get depression. Depression can happen at any time in a woman's life. However, the risk is greater once a girl reaches her teenage years until her early 40s.

It is important to know that your experience with depression can change during your life. For example, treatment options for someone in their 20s can be different than for someone in their 60s. During your life, there may also be differences with who you turn to for support.

Ages & Stages offers a downloadable tool that will give you information about depression throughout your life.

Be sure to also look at the other Support Partners guidebooks. The guidebooks can:

  • Help you recognize the signs and symptoms of depression
  • Offer tips to manage depression
  • Provide advice on how to ask for, or offer, support
